According to Rebecca English on her twitter they didn't buy out the entire first class. Perhaps some were bumped but other first class passengers reported seeing them in first class with their security.
I’m glad they saw the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla. I wonder if any groveling took place? I don’t think I could look the Queen in the face about all the terrible things they said and did.
It is truly astonishing. The Queen must be a lot more forgiving and understanding than I would be. I’m sure she’s also itching to ask “WHY?” about their choice to name their daughter what they did. 😂
I wonder if they actually bumped people or if the airline made the choice/extended the “courtesy” to keep their high profile passengers happy & “safe” (w/o them asking). I have NO idea if that’s a thing, and I can also see H&M asking them to do it…. Just curious how it all played out. I doubt we’ll ever know. BUT, if they did in fact ask the airline to bump others, it suggests to me that it was a last minute decision which leads me to worry about the Queen’s health.
Also, how many times have we heard of Kate & William (and Harry, I think) flying first class with others without issue? Something about this just seems a bit…. Off.
We flew on Wednesday on flights from Tucson to Atlanta and then to Fort Lauderdale. Every flight was overbooked and they asked people to volunteer to give up their seats (if they had seat numbers) on our early morning Tucson-Atlanta flight. But to BUMP people who had assigned seats would be terrible. Especially if those people had meetings to attend and so on. The rich are different and it is never more so.
I should think this past week especially a lot of people would have been travelling to have Easter with family, and perhaps spending a holiday with family and/or friends for the first time in a while. And it couldn't have been easy -- with so many flights overbooked -- to get another flight quickly.
If the bumping is true, it's a good example for celebs of how NOT to fly commercial. It's still an incredible use of privilege, and while you're not wasting precious environmental resources, you ARE wasting the resources (especially time) of other, much less privileged people who don't have access to private planes etc to get to their destinations when they need to.
I think it is obnoxious that they bumped people from first class. If they had bought it out BEFORE any tix were sold then that’s another story.
Oh and Happy Easter - I just attended a Maundy Thursday service myself.

I didn’t see Rebecca’s tweet on the Susssex’ first class seats?

Lovely picture of the Cams!!! Shame on the airline for allowing them to do that and actually bump others who paid for those seats!
