November 2022 Newsletter
As I write the monthly newsletter, William and Kate are kicking off their trip to America! The couple just touched down in Boston. They are scheduled for a private meeting with Boston’s Mayor Wu before a public appearance outside City Hall around 4:30pm eastern.
Before we get into Kate’s November, I want to be sure none of you missed the other posts I sent out this month. I know these Substack emails can often end in the spam folder. Remember you can always access the posts online, too.
November was an interesting month of “firsts.” The next year will be full of these milestones as King Charles embarks on the first year of his reign. William and Kate are also stepping out onto new ground as they begin their tenure holding the highly prestigious titles Prince and Princess of Wales.
Remembrance Sunday was, therefore, particularly solemn this year as Charles led the family for the first time as king. Kate debuted two black ensembles for the weekend, as she always does—one for the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday night and one for Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph.
I liked her dress for the Festival of Remembrance. She has this Self-Portrait dress in cream, and I thought it was a nice piece for the event. The structured top provided a formal tone and the lace at the hem was a nice touch for the evening. The Festival of Remembrance is a pretty staid fashion event, though, and we don’t get many good shots of the ensemble.
I don’t think I got around to weighing in on Instagram about her Sunday ensemble, but I was a little baffled. I am usually a huge fan of Kate’s big hats, but this topper from Philip Treacy was a big miss for me. The very deep/tall crown and the extra wide brim was overwhelming and came off as dated and frumpy. Although that Catherine Walker coat might have worked with a sleeker hat, all together I felt the look was a big miss.
