The habitually delayed Monday Memory is here. :) Today’s Monday Memory is October 12, 2018: the royal wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. For some reason, as I scrolled through the photos I was surprised to see Meghan in the background. I suppose she was on the scene for such a relatively short amount of time, I don't think of her as part of the crew for family events. But this was the autumn of the year Meghan and Harry married, and the couple were about to head out on an overseas tour of Australia, if memory serves. For this wedding, the Duchess of Sussex chose a Givenchy ensemble that I liked then and still like now, although it might have been a little all-purpose for a royal wedding.
It was a lovely wedding! What I noticed in the second photo you have, the one where Eugenia and Jack are leaving the church with the little attendants behind is that the emerald in her tiara is echoed in the sashes on the attendants :)
I loved this whole event apart from the faux ‘maternity’ coat that a certain person was wearing. This seemed happy wedding, very celebratory unlike the May dirge of a day. Catherine looked totally beautiful and elegant, as did Pippa who at least did have a bump to dress. Sorry, but I was furious with the attention seeking Markle !!
It was such a lovely wedding and the clothing was 😍 As for Meghan, she just never looked comfortable in most pictures to me.
She looked like she was faking it. I am not saying that to be mean, but more like she never felt like she fit in. I realize there are layers to peel away with that but that’s just how I perceive her when I see old pics of her. Even live action. Bless her heart.
I think this was the event where Meghan and Harry allegedly stole the focus from the happy couple by announcing her pregnancy. It seems an unkind thing to have done to Eugenie in particular as she and her husband appear from the Netflix show clips to have been closer to Meghan and Harry than any other family member. Agree that Meghan always seemed uncomfortable and overtly “acting” at any family event. In retrospect, I don’t think she ever was or would have been happy with a lifetime of attending weekly (or more often) events with a family and social scene she had so little in common with socially or personally. Culture and class shock played a part but also she just has no common interests or frame of reference.
I never believed that culture and class were the issue. She is old enough and well traveled enough to have a grasp on the differences. Meghan did not understand what it meant to be responsible to the taxpayers who supported the royal family nor what it meant to be a working royal who supported the monarch. It really is a shame. She had a lot to offer, but she needed to come to terms with her place within the family and what was expected of her if she was to be a working royal.
What do you make of the rumor that Eugenie and Jack were engaged and planning first and were made to delay their hoped-for wedding date in favor of Harry and Meghan?
Meghan's outfit, while perfectly fine, was chosen for one reason only - to have a loose, unbuttoned coat so she could make everyone wonder if she was pregnant. This was the moment when I realized that she was trouble - I liked her in Suits, and thought it would be interesting to have an American in the BRF, but her narcissistic personality and desire to be "top dog" showed themselves (for me anyway) on this day.
Eugenie's wedding dress and tiara are my favorites from among her generation of royals, though I do also love Beatrice's reworking of the Queen's dress. And the pictures of her and Edo outside the beautiful little chapel, roses growing everywhere, was like something out of a fairytale. I can't say that I'm wowed by any of the dresses here. I like Pippa's the best. Meghan is totally meh and Kate's dress seems a little fussy to me. They all seem a little plain and business-like for a wedding but I guess they splashed out in flashier looks for the reception.
Edited to add that I really love the earrings Kate wore.
This was a lovely wedding. Eugenie looked fabulous and her bridesmaids were very sweet in their coloured sashes.
I loved the colour of Kate's outfit, but preferred the style of the Trooping version, with the softer sleeve insertion.
I recall the fuss when Meghan publicly revealed her pregnancy during the wedding. I thought the unbuttoned coat over a non-bump was attention grabbing at the time.
I really did like Eugenie’s dress. Very beautiful
I really enjoyed Eugenie’s wedding! Thanks for reflecting on it as the Monday Memory! 🤍

I remember reading that the fabric print was designed based on an art piece Eugenie really loved from the gallery where she worked!

I know!! This just reminded me of how she tried to steal the attention literally right after joining the family

The bright pink for Trooping is my all time favorite Kate outfit. Bandbox perfection. Hoping she’s doing well.

If I recall, isn't this when Harry and Meghan announced to the family that they were expecting? And that's why her coat was a little meh?

This is one of my top five looks for Catherine. I love the color on her, I love the hat. I think it was such a pretty choice for a family wedding.
Catherine is in one of my very favorite outfits of hers!! She looks both gorgeous and impeccable!!

Other than that, it was a beautiful wedding!!
