Today is the delayed Monday Memory. This trip down memory lane takes us back to Sandringham and Kate’s first public outing in 2016. It was Sunday, January 10th, the day after her 34th birthday.
Carole, Michael, Pippa, and James Middleton had all gathered at Anmer Hall for Kate’s birthday weekend, and the the party joined Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at their Sunday service at St. Mary Magdalene. Fashion fans will note a variety of shared items on the Middleton women. I think both Carole and Pippa were wearing hats from Kate’s closet.
That morning, Queen Elizabeth was scheduled to lay a wreath at a war memorial cross a short walk from the church to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the campaign on the Gallipoli peninsula. William and Kate were not slated to attend the ceremony, but made a last minute decision to join the Queen.
I loved this event at the time, and still love it. There was something so intimate and beautiful about it. The Queen was laying a wreath right there on her Sandringham Estate with locals gathered around. It felt straight out of Downton Abbey.
Kate’s ensemble also reinforced the Downton Abbey vibe. The Princess wore wool separates from American label Michael Kors. She had just worn this a few weeks before for the Sunday service right after Christmas. On this war memorial Sunday, she wore her hair up with a Sylvia Fletcher hat and her Aquatalia Rumba boots.
Kate’s earrings were Kiki McDonoughs Citrine Drops, which Kate has worn countless times and remain fan favorites.
I looked back at my old posts, and apparently, William had just cut his hair and was causing a lot of talk with his “new do.” This was him at Christmas just a few weeks before:
Personally, I think this was an important turning point for William. ;) It was time to transition to this closer cut, and he has looked more distinguished ever since.
What did you think of this look at the time? Would it wear well today? I loved it then, and I think she could rewear it today and look picture perfect. It is a very classic country ensemble, and that longer hemline is still en vogue.
As you hopefully read in the Late-Week Round-Up, Kate was well enough to head to Sandringham for a “staycation” this past weekend, so it sounds like she is healing well, which is wonderful news. I am sorry this post is a day late, but my Monday was unexpectly rearranged, eliminating the time I had set aside for the post. I won’t say whose fault this was, but *cough cough* I still love my husband.
Omg, classic country look is an understatement. Perfect outfit. I love the Rhumba boots, I own a pair as well, like you do, Jane!
Beautiful country chic. I love this look - it is timeless!
