I am excited to review today’s Monday Memory. We are looking back to April 20, 2023—just over 18 months ago yesterday. William and Kate were in Birmingham on a series of engagements highlighting the city’s economy and culture. I never really got a chance to review the engagement to begin with, because I was in labor with my son that day, so I can’t say I was paying much attention. I remember briefly seeing Kate in a bold burgundy, and it made me smile.
I think we are all ready for the smiles that Kate seems to bring to us and to others. In that last photo, you can see how everybody is smiling and all seem as happy to see her and she is to see them! Love everything about this dress, the style, the color and the way it moves. Not a fan of her heavier earrings, but I once asked about the citrine stone that Kate seems to favor quite a bit, and was told that it is considered a neutral, like a gold accent which is why you would see her wear it with different colorways. Loving your weekly 'memories' Jane, thank you!
Oh, how I agree with you, Jane, about the Princess's penchant for chunky costume jewelry earrings. I say this only somewhat tongue in cheek--"HOW CAN SHE when she has access to such beautiful fine jewelry with gorgeous gemstones?!?" (unless the jewelry is used to showcase a local jewelry designer on a royal tour). I can think of many of her costume jewelry earrings that I have rued the appearance of in recent years! Perhaps you could do a post on your favorites of her jewelry in these three categories--fine jewelry, her pieces borrowed from the Queen and the costume jewelry. I'd love to read your take on those different options. Thanks for another interesting Monday Memory!!
I love the color and the cut of the coat but remember thinking at the time that it would have made more sense for a fall engagement rather than spring - love seeing all the smiles though!
Glad you picked this memory..I had never seen it. Catherine is certainly a woman who can wear just about anything beautifully. The pleats and belt would not necessarily flatter most women. The color is gorgeous and she looked wonderful.
Absolute cracker of an outfit! The colour and style are both winners. I only have the vaguest recollection of this appearance, though I’m not sure why. It certainly wasn’t because I was having a baby 😂 The dress could easily be re-worn, and I hope it is. As always, her best accessory is her beautiful smile.
The earrings are ok but don’t go with her professional looking trench dress. To me this style of earring would look good with jeans and a t-shirt or a casual sundress. She does this quite a lot-wearing casual, chunky earrings with business attire. Love the dress and shoes though.
Love that this memory gives you a sweet reminder of your own baby ❤️ I loved this look on Catherine then, and I still love it now!
Beautiful color on Catherine.

I love her in burgundy. It reminds me of her first Christmas. So beautiful! 😊

Also - I remember William taking reservations at this restaurant 😌

I loved this look on Catherine. I like the earrings too - they add some pizazz to the otherwise monotone outfit.

Oh I miss the days when she was blissfully happy and none of us every dreamed our beautiful princess would be threatened by cancer.
