On Tuesday, William and Kate stepped out for an afternoon at one of the King’s Buckingham Palace garden parties—certainly a highlight of the calendar for royal watchers. This was a doubly exciting garden party, since Kate missed all of them last year due to her illness.
The Edinburghs, Zara Phillips, and Princess Eugenie all attended and added some extra excitement and fashion.
Kate wore the buttery yellow Emilia Wickstead she first wore to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. This dress is absolutely exquisite. I know some people are frustrated with a few of Emilia Wickstead’s custom pieces for Kate (because of some tailoring issues), but this piece was and is absolute perfection.
Kate paired the dress with a Philip Treacy hat she first debuted at Harry and Meghan’s wedding. The hat complemented the dress perfectly, but I wonder if she remembered that the Sussexes’ wedding anniversary was just the day before? Haha. Kate obviously likes the hat, since she already recycled it for Trooping in 2019. Clearly, it isn’t overly connected to the Sussexes in her mind!
I wasn’t in love with this hat at its debut, but, to me, it looks better with this dress than with the coat Kate originally paired it with. I suppose that demonstrates how hats and the rest of an ensemble work together and are very interconnected.
The Princess added real glam by wearing sentimental earrings from her own wedding day. These are the diamond encrusted acorn and oak leaf earrings created by Robinson Pelham for Kate’s royal wedding.
Although Kate’s ensemble was a recycle, it was still a smash hit in my book. This dress is such a stunning one, it deserved a beautiful rewear, and a garden party at Buckingham Palace was just the occasion. Kate’s hat and throw-back accessories (Forever New woven clutch and Gianvito Rossi slingbacks) completed a picture perfect and slightly nostalgic look.
I love yellow and I love this dress. Interesting for me is the hat and a posssible reason she ordered two dresses in a strong shade of butter yellow. Perhaps I am reaching ... Catherine received a lot of unwarranted criticism for wearing "white" to H&M's wedding. Catherine Fans all know the dress was the daintiest primrose. When she wore this hat again with two different dresses in butter yellow (Trouping 2019 and Jubilee 2022), we all nodded and said "See, her dress for H&M's wedding was yellow." Am I reaching?
Anyone else's heart break a little when she was meeting with Liz Hatton's family?
I love these rewears there are so many lovely things we’ve seen only once or twice I’d love to see that strapless black velvet number she wore years ago to the military awards with the ruby and diamond necklace
