I’d wear it with different shoes and a different jacket too. It is a nice dress but plain.

Interesting to look back on a time when she was still wearing fairly short skirts. She has great legs, so why not. I do vaguely seem to remember that she was criticized for that. Or am I misremembering?

The Stella McCartney plus blazer doesn't look particularly dated but it is very basic and boring. I don't think I would have ever been a fan of this outfit. As for the skinny jeans, I think she overdid it with them. They were ubiquitous for a very long time. But she certainly looked good in them.

She certainly wears her dresses much longer these days. Maybe a palace directive? I thought the shorter length was fine and appropriate. Certainly not over the top.

I loved and still love sheath dresses. Nothing wrong with just above the knee--I see it all the time where I live--and I live right by NYC which is definitely fashion-forward. To me she looked great! I wish she'd go back to long necklaces over relatively plain dresses. I do get that bending over safely is easier in long flowy skirts. Never liked the wedges. And I think the skinny jeans would have worked better then and even now with flats.

I am probably in the minority, but I miss the dresses. I'm just not a big fan of the matchy colored suits in pink, purple, green, etc. Of course, Kate is very polished and looks great in everything. There are engagements where trousers make more sense than a dress, but maybe a dress occasionally?? Please.

Call me crazy or old-fashioned, but I still love the wedges -- I have always adored espadrilles of all heights and back in the late 80s/early 90s had fabulous open-toe sling back espadrille wedges from Spain, one pair in black and one in natural, and they were the perfect summer shoe. Thank you again for these fun Mondays, Jane -- what a lovely way to start the week!

So beautiful! Then and now. Love her in that blue, that dress, those wedges. She's such a light! 💙

Amazing how happy Harry always looked in this era.

It makes me sad to think about the state of things now between the brothers, and between Kate and Harry

I am loving this new series. Thank you for taking the time to do a look back on some of these engagements we may have forgotten! I remember when she wore this dress and I immediately tried to buy it. It was sold out and super expensive…..so I guess I’m glad it was sold out!

I wasn't a fan of the wedges then and still am not. But if she liked them and they were practical, I'll forgive her. Loving this series Jane. Thank you!

Because Kate doesn’t slavishly follow fashion trends, it is easy to miss that she very much follow her own trends. We had the sheath dress era, the flowy maxy dress, the polka dot Alessandra Reiss (I hope that is a thing of the past) and now the pantsuit era. I wish she would mix it up a bit more, there is a number of dresses from the sheath dress era that was both timeless and ageless and would be nice to throw in the mix every now and again.
