I cheated a little on today’s Monday Memory. My random number generator sent me back to January 2013, which does have a single event in it, but I got sidetracked looking at other pictures and realized I really wanted a little sparkle today. So I chose to highlight the National Portrait Gala on February 11, 2014.
This is one of my favorite gowns, too. Especially with her emeralds. She always looks so happy when she wears it. It's a shame her hair didn't do either the dress or the necklace justice on this occasion.. And how often does Kate have a hair 'fail', if you could call a few unruly gorgeous locks a fail!
I agree that an updo would have been fabulous. I always thought this outing needed exactly that, especially with this necklace! I would love to see this dress again!
This was always one of my favorite gowns. It's not at all dated and I'd love to see her wear it again. And that necklace is breathtaking. Once she starts attending formal events again I really hope she dips into the jewelry vaults for some spectacular new (to her) gems.
I love the dress but not the overall look. I remember feeling that both the necklace and her hair was weighing her down. An updo would definitely have improved the situation. But I have never been a fan of the Hyderabad necklace. I prefer jewelry to have more negative space, this necklace is so dense and chuncky that it always feels heavy to me. I can hardly believe that out of Cartier whole collection HM chose this.
I feel like this was in the time when she used her hair as a shield. It’s nice to look back and you can literally see how much she’s grown. she's much more self confident and confident in her role so we see her just knocking it out of the park and wearing her clothes and hair exactly right for her outfit and the occassion.
Probably my favourite of all her gowns - totally beautiful
No Trooping of the Colour post? 😥
I will cover Trooping later this week. This is the regularly scheduled Monday Memory.
The gown. The necklace. Words fail me how gorgeous.

I agree with you that I liked the dress and jewelry but I would have much preferred an up-do. The hair took away from the look a bit for me.
