Today’s Monday Memory takes us back to December 11, 2018. William and Kate undertook two public engagements in London together that day. The first, which we are focusing on, was to Evelina London Children’s hospital. Shortly before the couple arrived, Kensington Palace announced that Kate was the new royal patron Evelina London, adding a special buzz to the engagement.
With just weeks to go until Christmas, the couple tried their hands at a number of Christmas crafts with the children and families. As almost always would happen at these events, George, Charlotte, and Louis came up. Both William and Kate remarked on how much George and Charlotte enjoy these types of pastimes. I think Louis was a little too young at the time, but, of course, he will be right in the thick of things this year.
Kate debuted a forest green silk dress with polka dotes by L.K. Bennett. The tea-length piece featured a tied bow at the neckline and large pearl buttons that complemented her Annoushka Baroque Pearl earrings perfectly.
I really love this dress. I found a wonderful repliKate of it and loved wearing it until I got pregnant, so when I see this dress I always smile. Kate’s fashion really did (and does) affect the fashion industry. The replicates truly do proliferate.
Even more, I love the Annoushka Baroque pearls so much. They are so classically Kate. I have the Kiki Hoops already—a gift from my husband when our son was born. But I added these pearl drops to my wishlist this year.
Kate finished the look with an L.K. Bennett clutch in khaki and Gianvito Rossi heels in dark olive. I am not sure about muddy green/olive tones with forest green. I don’t think these really went, but I like that she tried something new! What do you think? Did they work?
There is a color theory from David Hicks which says since we see multiple shades of green mixed in nature and it is always pleasing to our eyes that all greens go together. In general I agree, and it applies here. Kate looks lovely and seems to have a good eye for mixing color.
I also have some earrings like Kate, though one is in a color that worked better for me. (It makes things easy for spouses.) It is fun to feel connected to and get that feeling of luxury that we experience with royalty.
Green is a staple colour in my wardrobe and I must say I keep forest green and moss green accessories for use as required and don’t mix them much - they look ok in nature because there are far more than two shades together so your eye finds the harmonious link. Having said that, I loved this dress on Kate.
