I do love Wimbledon. It’s such a wonderful blend of world-class tennis and royal watching. This morning, Michael and Carole Middleton were in the Royal Box to watch Novak Djokovic compete against Alex de Minaur in a nail-biting 16th round at Wimbledon.
Seated ahead of the Middletons were tennis champion Roger Federer and his wife Mirka, both of whom, you doubtless recall, attended Pippa Middleton’s wedding. King Frederik of Denmark was also in the front row, although way down on the left, as was the Duchess of Gloucester, who was pictured embracing Carole when she arrived.
For her appearance in the Royal Box, Carole chose a Beulah London dress with Emmy London flats. She was carrying an Osprey London bag and intermittently wearing Chanel sunnies.
We were just chatting about Pippa Middleton Matthews, and this weekend we got a rare sighting of her! She accompanied her husband and other members of the Matthews family (including brother-in-law Spencer in the aqua suit) to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend. The British Grand Prix is a Formula One race held every year in the U.K.
You may or may not know that Pippa’s husband James is a former professional racer driver, and he is still involved on the board of a racing entity.
There was talk about Pippa and James when the former attended Kate’s Christmas Carol Service in December without her husband and without her ring on. I felt that the likelihood of any trouble in paradise was exceptionally low, since that kind of gossip tends to spread quickly. James’s absence from society events does not surprise me. This is a man so inclined to skip social events, he passed on the coronation of Charles III. Still, it is nice to see them out together on occasion, as we did this weekend, with Pippa’s beautiful asscher cut diamond engagement ring sparkling on her finger.
Pippa was wearing an Usisi Sister dress with a Sézane suede jacket. She was carrying an Emmy London bag and wearing Castañer wedges. Her sunglasses were Finlay.
As I mentioned on Instagram and on Notes here on Substack yesterday, the Princess of Wales (with Prince William) will meet French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at RAF Northolt tomorrow and accompany them to the Horse Guards for their formal reception by King Charles III to kick off the French State Visit. We still don’t know if Kate will attend the State Dinner. I don’t think it is out of the realm of the possible, but I don’t think the odds are amazing.
I have gotten lots of questions on whether Kate will attend the Wimbledon Men’s final on Sunday. Everyone expects her to, although there has been no formal confirmation from the Palace. Last year, the Palace did not confirm until the day before. I would put money on her being there, though, and I would be genuinely very concerned about her health if she did not show.
The Middleton’s do such a fabulous job of being classy and low key at the same time. They no doubt are the in laws of choice! 😂
I have a pair of wedges nearly identical to Pippa's and seeing her in them makes me want to get them out for a wear this week!
