I thought she looked wonderful at both events! The coat for trooping was a surprise, but I loved it. I also think she wears that 5 strand pearl necklace so well. I love it on her. I think, while she has always looked amazing, her bolder style as Princess of Wales is just continuing to “knock it out of the park!”
Don’t care what she is wearing atm tbh. It’s all background to the happiness she is radiating. So nice to see given her recent health challenges. God bless them all.
I loved the colour of her trooping ensemble but was not entirely convinced by the coat. It looked great seated in the carriage and with children in front, but it seemed a bit much when seen full length - but as you say, Jane, not a miss.
I also loved her St George’s day outfit - I think this is the best appearance of this dress. I’m not a huge fan of half lined skirts, but this one, where the lining is as full as the skirt and touches the knee, is just right.
Fashion-wise, I don't like the Trooping the Colour outfit. Someone mentioned in the last post that Kate graduated from art history, and we can see it. The coat echoes Diana, the Irish guard, and the turquoise stone is a symbol of protection and renewal, which makes sense, given that it is one year after a cancer diagnosis. It's timeless.
On the other hand, I love the white outfit and appreciate that it's the kind of outfit we can replicate with our clothes.
Her white ensemble was gorgeous and while the turquoise wasn't a personal favorite, I didn't dislike it and I can see all the reasons she chose the outfit. I also loved seeing the behind the scenes photos and videos in nearly real time.
I was also quite intrigued to see Peter Phillips with his girlfriend in the carriage procession yesterday at Royal Ascot. I believe that was her official debut with the royals.
I love it too! It's so striking - really visually salient. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the design and styling.
(Unrelatedly, is Charlotte wearing (gulp) stockings? Eeeesh, if so, I hate that for her. It takes me back to opening up the L'Eggs suntan size A. Shudder.)
I think wearing tights is very common in Britain, for girls as well as women. Wasn't that allegedly a dispute between Kate & Meghan re Meghan's wedding, that it would be appropriate for the bridesmaids to wear tights and Meghan wouldn't hear of it?
I want for nude hosiery to make a comeback worldwide. They just make shoes so much more comfortable, especially in the heat. I find that they're thin enough that they don't make me feel hotter, but they keep my feet from feeling stuck to my shoes. They make me feel so much more comfortable, and they prevent blisters. I wish they had never been deemed unfashionable.
I think she looked great. The outfit for the Trooping was sharp; she drew the eye, which I remember HLM always thought important. What a beautiful family. I've never particularly liked the Self Portrait dress (though she and many other royals seem to!), but I thought it looked great with the hat at Garter ceremony. Both days were great hats! I'm a little sad Kate looks to be missing Ascot, but my sense is it's never been her thing. And maybe her stamina still flags a bit?
I would have loved to have eavesdropped on the conversations at the porch--it looked like Kate was regaling Sophie and that other lady (don't know who she was) with a funny story. But the woman who was standing in front of them, staring out at the crowds looked quite glum. She was wearing a blue dress and white and yellow jacket with a dark blue hat. I wondered if she was a security officer, she barely smiled, never looked back, always forward at the crowds, scanning. I rewatched it on the Royal Family channel on YouTube and have decided that she probably was a protection/security officer.
The woman chatting with Kate and Sophie is leaning on a cane? Although Princess Alexandra is a Knight of the Order so technically she could be in the walk itself, wearing the regalia. There were some very old, very bent over Knights. I see the NY Post identified the woman as Princess Alexandra
It is not Alexandra unfortunately. I would love to see her. She’s very frail. Remember in the coronation picture she was basically being held up so she can stand.
I think the color blocking at the Trooping is the old technique of being visible from far away. I liked the Trooping dress and hat. But the best part was the way the kids seemed so comfortable. It seems from today that maybe it’s still tricky to do a long run of big appearances. I hope that’s not the case!
My burning question about the Trooping was--who is Kate's hairdresser and does he/she come to Windsor and/or to KP? Her hairstyle on Saturday was one of her intricate chignons when she was at KP but on Monday in Windsor she wore her hair down, more simply. Does she do her hair herself on the days that it's down? I google'd with the question "Who is Princess of Wales' hairdresser?" to satisfy my curiosity. The most recent article, from March of this year, discussed Kate's chignons but the person quoted, Jo Hansford, never explicitly says she styles Kate's hair. She's just given a recognition for being "hairdresser to the Royal Household." So that's a mystery I'd love to see written about :) Can anyone shed light?
I was concerned when I saw she pulled out of Royal Ascot today. I so, SO want her to stay well! There's been back-and-forth talk about whether Kate is allergic to horses. Kate told someone many years ago that she was "allergic" to horses but it could have simply been something one says to someone you feel is pestering you "I'm allergic to...." stops the conversation. But it did spawn many articles over the years and you really never see her close to horses do you? I personally like horses but after falling off several times, I gave up riding and left it to my daughter who achieved her first level of Horsemasters in Aberdeen before she gave it up to follow her husband to the deserts of Arizona and raise children instead of horses ;)
Whatever, although I was disappointed and concerned, I was glad that she felt she could pull out if she's not feeling up to par. She's not the star, not the main attraction, she can quietly pace herself and do what's best for her.
Oh and PS I adored that photo of the family! George is really changing--his face is becoming much more teenager!
I liked the color and loved that she & Charlotte matched. She won't be able to get away with that for much longer. I used to think that the visual cueing of "family unit" was sort of extra, but I understand it more now. They have been under assault on several fronts. They all looked wonderful and the Fathers Day pix were also lovely.
There was also the family photo; when we did our family photo a couple of years ago we stayed with neutral white, pale blue and khaki. Came out so well.
I wonder if she is wearing wider brim hats this summer as sun protection? She and I are the same age, and hats have become much more important to me as of late. It’s also a way to prevent skin cancer, which might be recommended by her doctors.
I have always loved the Self Portrait white dress, and I’m annoyed she keeps rewearing it because it keeps the resale value high and out of my price range on secondhand websites!
Yes! What a difference a hat makes! I was not a fan of the Self=Portrait dress, especailly when she paired it with the black bow in her hair. However, the Garter Day wearing was stunning!
I also liked her Trooping outfit but wish she would wear her hemlines just a couple inches higher.
I have a couple friends who have gone through chemo for cancer and they have both expressed the after effects can last a year after chemo is completed. One friend said she would feel okay one day only to wake up the next day feeling so fatigued she could barely get out of bed or she would feel like she was being stuck by pins. I imagine the Princess is still experiencing after effects and will continue to do so for some time.
I love all her outfits lol hard for me to find one I didn’t like except maybe the skinny pants she favoured at one point. Heigh ho.
The trooping outfit I liked the color. She stood out. Didn’t think of the military nod. Makes sense. I thought she shone. I love the self portrait dress and concur with hat - amazing !! I am a bit worried to hear she pulled out of ascot …. Maybe just too much and too many days in a row… but it worries me nevertheless.
Oh … and love the Father’s Day photos. As someone who is/has been where Kate is nearly exactly, I get it around anniversaries and there’s a wistfulness I think one feels around the anniversary of say cancer diagnosis, chemo ending etc etc. it could be that she was a bit reflective around Mother’s Day re that video …. And grateful. Not sure. Best wishes all
I’m curious about the jewelry choices. Loved the pearls but didn’t see much coverage of them. Are they from the vault or her person collection? Either way, love to see the fresh new ways to bring pearls forward.

I seem to be in the minority, but I love the aquamarine outfit! The whole family looks like they’re thriving.
I love it too! It's so striking - really visually salient. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the design and styling.

You're right - that's a good reminder. I think of girls' tights in white or black, but I guess Charlotte is outgrowing the white tights, isn't she?

The lady with Kate & Sophie is Princess Alexandra, sister of the Duke of Kent.
Thank you!!
Sorry that is not Princess Alexandra. Princess Alexandra is much much older and uses a cane.
