This week, not for the first time, we were all presented with the question, does anyone know what they are doing over at Archewell? The week kicked off with the news that Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation was delinquent over unpaid fees and/or missed paperwork filing with the state of California.
The California Attorney General’s office issued a notice (which is public) on May 3rd, although the news just hit headlines this week, noting the failure to either pay a fee, file a form, or both. The result was that Archewell could no longer raise money or disburse funds while the foundation was in delinquency.
Archewell briefed to news outlets that its check got lost in the mail! According to one outlet:
The Times understands that the foundation believes it filed on time but that a physical cheque included in the filing appears to have never been received.
Archewell only became aware of the issue when it received the delinquency notice and has sent a new cheque, expecting the issue to be quickly resolved.
Today, Archewell is back in compliance and its spokesman has released the following:
We have diligently investigated the situation and can confirm that The Archewell Foundation remains fully compliant and in good standing. Due payments were made promptly and in accordance with the IRS's processes and procedures. Furthermore, all necessary paperwork had been filed by the Foundation without error or wrongdoing.
This has become a huge back and forth between fans and foes of the Sussexes, with fans arguing this whole incident has been overblown and foes obviously dialing in on the delinquency issue.
