Yesterday, as William and Kate crossed the Atlantic to kick off their massive three-day tour in America, Meghan and Harry released a video promotional for the 2023 Invictus Games that featured both of them, albeit it briefly.
Obviously, fans felt the timing was suspicious to say the least. It felt petty and grasping to try to steal, or at least muscle away some of, the spotlight as the royal couple landed in Boston. Still, that trailer (which you can view here) was pretty mild and didn’t make that much of a splash, especially since the headlines were already crammed with competing drama from the royal household.
Harry and Meghan, though, knew something none of the rest of us knew. That Invictus trailer was just the appetizer. They served the main course this morning. As the sun rose to brighten the Waleses first full day in Boston, and on the eve of William’s marquee Earthshot Awards, Netflix finally dropped the trailer for the Sussexes’ docudrama. My royal news feeds are choked with the headlines.

Netflix just says “coming soon” in the trailer, but this suggests to most of us that the leaked date of December 8th is in fact the release day.
This trailer could have come a few days earlier or a few days later, so there is no doubt the release today is meant to capitalize on the Waleses visit to America. All the networks are already covering and talking about the Waleses, and now they can discuss this Meghan and Harry “documentary” at the same time. So it stokes drama and acts as free advertising—both excellent for business.
The show will be 6 part series that
