The Sussexes are in hot water again, this time, controversy has erupted over ESPN’s decision to honor Harry with the their Pat Tillman Award for Service. This is an award presented by ESPN and supported by the Pat Tillman Foundation. Harry is being honored for his work helping wounded veterans through the Invictus Games.
Hopefully you are familiar with Pat Tillman. He was an NFL star in 2001 when the United States was attacked on September 11th. He left his lucrative career and enlisted in the military. As an Army Ranger, he served several combat tours and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004. The tragedy of his death was compounded when it was revealed he was killed by friendly fire. Obviously his decision to volunteer to fight made him an honored national figure.
Pat Tillman’s mother Mary Tillman has been very vocally opposed to the award going to Harry. She told reporters:
