Today’s Monday Memory returns us to September 29, 2016. William and Kate were on their second tour of Canada, this time in the Yukon Territory, among other stops. The Yukon Territory is very far north, on par with Alaska, and all the pictures depicted both the frontier nature of the region and the beauty. It was a wonderful tour, if you did not follow it live at the time.
The couple’s stop in Carcross remains one of my favorite tour memories—both for the fashion and the day’s events. Among other activities, the couple poked around a big old steam train.
The photos of the royal pair edging their way along the bridge with the mountains in the background, steam puffing around them, or climbing up on the engine, made the two look like they were starring in a very glamorous western. Eight years later, these images are still clear in my mind.
Kate was glowing, and seemed to be having the time of her life. This was the royal couple in peak form.
The day is also memorable because Kate debuted this very popular coat by Sentaler. The soft, shawl design and distinctive ribbed sleeves were a massive hit and the time, and I still love this coat and this brand many years later.
When I think back to this debut, it was uncomplicated by the comparisons that would now accompany it because of Meghan’s preference for the Canadian label, too. You all know I love the Meghan drama, truly, but every now again—like right now looking at these pictures—I long for the simpler days.
Kate was wearing skinny jeans and boots by R. Sole London to complete her chic western look. Her earrings created a stir because they were made by a local designer named Shelley MacDonald, and although once Kate wore the earrings, the designer started selling them online, MacDonald told reporters that the earrings had only been available for sale in a Whitehorse gift shop. So a member of Kate’s entourage must have been tasked with shopping locally one night during the tour to source local talent. I love these little details about tours.
This was a smash hit event and remains one of my favorite memories.
I remember that tour and just adored that sweater on her! Did she ever wear it again in public? Oh how I miss seeing her fashion choices today. I hope she is doing well and praying for a full remission .
Such a happy engagement. The Prince and Princess look delighted and engaged. The Princess does causal extremely well and she looks marvellous. The coat is gorgeous - from the wide shawl collar to the ridges on the sleeves, it is cosy and stylish, which is not an easy combination to achieve. I know the skinny jeans were/are divisive but I love them on Catherine, and her affection for those boots is most endearing. The boots are very much in their element in this location. Her hair is beautiful and her accessories on point. I miss seeing them on tour in countries that welcome them and where there is less political controversy, or at least where the controversy is less personally directed. A beautiful flashback, thank you
