Today’s Monday Memory takes us back to May 11, 2017. The then-Duchess of Cambridge was in Luxembourg to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Second Treaty of London.
This was Kate’s second solo trip since her marriage, and it was an event where she mingled with her European counterparts. Kate was joined throughout the day by Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie and Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, but she did meet with the whole royal family at the Grand Ducal Palace. Below she is pictured with (left to right) Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg, Princess Stephanie of Luxembourg, Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Maria Teresa, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, and Prince Guillaume.
The royals had a busy day, visiting a modern art museum, a cycling festival, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and a museum featuring artifacts related to the Second Treaty of London.
Kate chose a pale blue Emilia Wickstead coat dress featuring a tuxedo style top with a feminine flared skirt.
She paired it with L.K. Bennett heels and an Etui clutch. Her jewelry, however, caused the biggest buzz at the time. In addition to wearing her Mappin & Webb Empress pendant necklace, Kate debuted Kiki McDonough’s blue topaz earrings. These extra large stones are surrounded in diamonds and represent very bold pieces for Kate.
One of the sweetest moments of the day was when this little guy presented flowers to Kate but was overcome with shyness right at the critical moment. This makes me smile, because my little guy has been doing the same thing recently.
These day trips or two-day trips to European countries are always so much fun, especially when there are other royals involved. The hope is that Kate will join William on at least one trip to Europe in 2025, so I think we can anticipate that we will be seeing an event like this again in the relatively near future.
I must have been distracted when the Princess visited Luxembourg because I could hardly remember this trip at all so I’m very glad you chose to revisit it today. What a success the visit was! It’s always a joy to see the Princess take a prominent “centre stage” role. She does it with such grace, humility and her sense of fun shines, especially when children are involved! Her outfit is classic Kate and she looks a dream in pale blue. Her earrings are lovely - a good size and a gorgeous colour. Princess Stephanie also looks beautiful. Even though her taste is a little “frou-frou” for me, I think she looks fabulous in that red dress. I also enjoyed seeing Kate in historic Luxembourg, which looks quite different to her home country. Thank you for a great Monday memory.
Love the earrings! She should wear them more often.
I also really like the coat dress. I think this was her era of really establishing her professional style. The coat dresses were a good look and were her signature for quite a while.
Such fun to see Stephanie and the rest of the royals.
