Today’s Monday Memory is a look-back to March 8, 2012—Kate’s visit to Leicester with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. This event was the kick-off of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour and celebrations. The trio watched a multi-cultural dance, attended a fashion show, participated in a service of Thanksgiving at Leicester Cathedral, and visited with the crowds who turned out to greet them.
It was a very busy day! William was on deployment in the Falklands, and Kate told onlookers that she missed him and was getting lots of quality time with Lupo (their dog at the time) while she waited for William to come home.
At the time of this engagement, Kate was still easing into public life—as hard as that is to believe at this stage in her royal career. This event was a new and unusual occasion during which Elizabeth and Philip were showing the relatively new royal the ropes.
This is still one of my favorite ensembles from Kate. She paired a peplum jacket with a fitted sheath dress—both from L.K. Bennett—and added a fabulous structured beret from Lock & Co. The teal was a beautiful color and coordinated so well with her eyes.
Kate’s earrings were custom pieces from Kiki McDonough that we believe William gave Kate on their first Christmas as a married couple.
I just got my Pilates Reformer out of a years long storage, and as I worked out on it this morning, I thought about Kate’s legs. Doesn’t everyone when they work out? Her shorter hems back in the day were always such great fitness inspo. :)
This was, all around, a wonderful engagement that has remained a fan favorite. Because it was with Elizabeth, it will be referred to for many years to come.
I expect Kate to join the other royals in the walk to St. Mary Magdalene on Christmas morning. For the first time ever, my little family is traveling on Christmas. We are taking my in-laws to the airport in the late afternoon for their flight home, and we are catching a plane back to my hometown to be with my family. So, Christmas is going to be a little hectic. If I don’t get the Christmas report up on the day, it will come on the 26th when I am back in cozy mode!
I absolutely love this outfit, and it is definitely fitness inspo!!
Thank you for this beautiful post, Jane. The Princess has been a star since her earliest days. She increases in Grace every year, no matter what obstacles are put in her path. May Catherine and all of the Royal Family be Blessed at this time and into the new year. And may you be blessed too, Jane. Thank you for your delightful posts.
