Monday Memory: July 6, 2022

Today’s Monday Memory is a relatively recent one—July 6, 2022. William competed in the Out-Sourcing Inc. Royal Charity Polo Cup at the Guards Polo Club, with Kate on the sidelines cheering his team to victory.

William (and Harry, back when he was still an active royal) announced he’d be playing less polo in the future, but when he played it would be for more money. I miss the regular polo events during the summer when Kate would arrive dressed very casually and sit in the grass (although those are completely gone). But I also have really enjoyed the dressier charity matches. This particular club has such a dramatic setting, too, since it sits almost in the shadow of Windsor Castle. What a backdrop for a future king to play the Sport of Kings!

On this July day, William and Kate brought their spaniel Orla with them, which injected some of the casual vibes of polo games past.

Kate chose Emilia Wickstead’s Denvella dress with Camilla Elphick “Alicia” Slingbacks for her ensemble. I loved this dress on Kate. White is such a great color on her, highlighting her dark hair and tan. This ensemble sparked a lot of comments about Kate’s enviable, toned arms. She did look magnificent.

She paired the dress with Sezane earrings and Finlay & Co. sunglasses.

This event was not even two years ago, and the dress is quite a classic design. So there is no question that Kate could recycle this today and it would be fine. I thought it a smashing success then and would welcome a repeat.

I wonder if Kate would make an appearance at a polo match sometime over the summer. It would be close to home, and she’d be photographed but not have to work the crowds. Who knows!
