Today’s Monday Memory takes us back to July 31, 2022. Kate headed to Plymouth to join Ben Ainslie and the 1851 Trust for a couple of activities. Her visit came just before a major sailing championship that was to take place in Plymouth that weekend. Kate visited with children studying seagrass in an interactive program hosted by Protect Our Future. Afterward, the princess headed out on an F50 foiling catamaran for a friendly race against New Zealand.
Kate arrived in a cashmere sweater-top by Erdem and Holland Cooper shorts, completed with Superga canvas sneakers and Orelia gold hoop earrings.
This was a change from Kate’s usual choice of jeans and had fans over the moon. I didn’t love the two-button closure on the shorts, but I otherwise thought they were great, with a very flattering, almost a-line silhouette. Obviously they showed off her beautiful legs and lovely tan.
After the initial pleasantries with her hosts and then mingling with the children learning about seagrass, Kate changed for the big event of the day—the race.
It looked like a blustery day on the water, but Kate seemed to enjoy every minute of the fast-paced event. These F50 catamarans can, at top speed, sail close to 100 km/hour, which is extraordinary.
As is usually the case on these water-related events, Kate was beaming at the end of a friendly but competitive afternoon.
Not really related to this event, but Kate was still the Duchess of Cambridge at this point. She did not know it, but she only had one more public engagement (not counting the start of school) left before she would become the Princess of Wales. After this, Kate attended the Commonwealth Games just a few days later before disappearing for the royals’ summer holiday. The Queen died just a little over a month later, on September 8th.
Although I didn’t/don’t love the two button closure, it was so delightful to see something different from her usual wardrobe. I also feel like sporting events, such as this one, give us a wonderful look at something she loves so much, being outside and active!
I love her Breton tops. Most I see are in navy… I wish they would make them in different colors.
