Today is Mary Berry’s 90th birthday, so I thought it would be fun to look back at one of Kate’s appearances with Mary. On September 10, 2019, Kate debuted her third and final “Back to Nature” garden design at the “Back To Nature” Festival in Wisley, England. The Princess arrived at the event by tractor accompanied by Mary Berry, who had been supporting Kate’s garden initiative.
Kate is a documented fan of Mary Berry. During another appearance together, Kate told Mary that one of Prince Louis’s first words was Mary, which she believes was because she has so many Mary Berry cookbooks in her kitchen. I am not sure that Louis could read the cookbook covers, but perhaps it underscores how often Kate was baking and talking about the recipe books.
For this event, Kate was wearing a floral Emilia Wickstead—a Net-a-Porter exclusive. The dress is a seersucker with a rose print. The princess paired it with her Monsoon espadrilles and filigree earrings from Accessorize.
This dress was a little bit go a risk. If I had been shopping this on the rack, I would have been a little uncertain. The roses are pretty, but it is a busy and could be a little “old.” But in action, though, it was beautiful, and I really liked this dress!
This was one of those events that really stands out. Kate always looks wonderful out on a farm, or in a garden—anywhere with warm sun and green grass.
Mary Berry was on a BBC breakfast show, and the hosts played a recorded message from Prince William wishing Mary a Happy 90th Birthday. And I bet Kate is making something from a Mary Berry cookbook tonight to celebrate.
I love this dress and Mary Berry!
I own a very similar version of one of Mary's staple necklaces (white gold links with pearls). My husband gave it to me to mark our 10th anniversary. I used to think it was only for special occasions. Once I saw that Mary's wears hers daily, I busted mine out of the safe. Mary is an inspiration in and out of the kitchen.
Happy Birthday, Ms. Mary Barry!
