Today’s Monday Memory takes us back to December 6, 2017. The then-Duchess of Cambridge (pregnant with Prince Louis) and the Duke of Cambridge were out and about on a joint engagement to the Children’s Global Media Summit in Manchester.
Kate arrived wearing a houndstooth patterned coat from L.K. Bennett. Donna Air—whom Kate’s brother was dating at the time—had been pictured wearing the same coat, and there was speculation Kate took some style inspiration from her.
The coat is L.K. Bennett’s Delli Check, and Kate paired it with a cute dress from GOAT London (now the Jane Atelier)! The Elodie has a darling “gathered funnel collar,” and pleated sleeves. Just enough detailing to make this simple dress flirty and fun.
Kate pulled the two pieces together with black stockings and accessories (her Tod’s pumps and Bayswater clutch), and added a hint of sparkle with Mappin & Webb’s Empress earrings.
This was, obviously, close to Christmas, and William revealed that Prince George played the sheep in his school's nativity play that year. At the time, I shared this archive picture of Prince Harry playing a shepherd when he was a little guy. This picture now has an element of tragedy, given his rift with his family and his roots, especially so after reading the Vanity Fair piece this past weekend (more on that Wednesday).
Speaking of Harry, I went back and reviewed this event and noticed that William was focusing heavily at the time on cyber bullying. In fact, the Duke gave a speech that day about the concerns he felt as a parent surveying the digital landscape in which we now live. An interesting reminder in light of Harry and Meghan’s recent digital/children focus.
I really liked this event, and loved the Goat dress so much. I really enjoy looking back at events when Kate was pregnant. What a special and happy time in her life.
My memories of the event are hazy but I too love the playful red dress and think it was very clever that the Princess wore it with the more serious coat. Catherine looks great. Despite suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, she often managed to look wonderful at times during her pregnancies. I think they were very special and happy times for the couple. A beautiful event to look back on, thank you.
I remember this event. Classic Kate ensemble for sure. She was always handled her pregnancies which such grace.
