On March 10th, the birthday of the Earl of Wessex, the Palace announced that Edward had been made the Duke of Edinburgh. Of course, that mades his wife Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh. The announcement ended months of speculation about whether Charles would grant the title or not.

Here on FBTB, we have been following a lot of different reports that Charles did not want to give the title to Edward at all and that he was even considering making Charlotte the Duchess of Edinburgh. According to royal reporters, all those stories were true. Although Charles hit upon the perfect day to make the big announcement, the delay in granting the title was not to wait for Edward’s birthday but because Charles was vacillating.
