July was a relatively quiet month for the royals. August is usually the dead month, but in recent years the Cambridges have spread out the summer slow season. Instead of entirely disappearing in August, they do undertake some royal engagements in that month, but they also take more time away in July. I think a lot of it has to do with balancing the children’s school schedules and trying to avoid disappearing for too long from the public eye.
When the Cambridges were out, though, it was all about sport. Obviously they kicked off the month with a series of engagements at Wimbledon and attended a glitzy polo match. They closed the month today with Kate sailing in Plymouth and William at Wembley cheering the Lionesses to victory in the Euro 2022 final.
There was some confusion among fans on whether Kate was scheduled to attend the event. She was not. Only William was ever confirmed as attending. Fans were hoping that he would bring Charlotte, but when Kensington Palace released a video message from William and Charlotte this morning, I figured we would not see the little princess at the match. It certainly was a sweet gesture from the Cambridges to release the video, though, and I am sure she will be at future events when she is older.
Kate had a busy day in Plymouth where she joined Ben Ainslie at the Great Britain Sail Grand Prix. The Duchess was at her sporty best, arriving in a cashmere Breton top by Erdem and lovely tailored shorts by Holland Cooper.
I really love these Holland Cooper shorts. Kate has worn the label’s sweaters and coats—which are absolutely gorgeous—so it is exciting to see her debut new pieces.
She changed into a more serious sailing wetsuit for a friendly race against New Zealand.
These two royal events were certainly a welcome palette cleanser after a week of decidedly distasteful internet rumors. Just this last week, DeuxMoi shared a salacious rumor about an unnamed royal.
