April 2024 Newsletter: A Royal Tour for the Sussexes?
The couple announce a visit to Nigeria on the eve of the Waleses' wedding anniversary.
April was the calmest month for the royal family in quite some time. The Princess of Wales’ bombshell cancer announcement at the end of March finally ended over a month of insanity on the internet and beyond. Although a few crazies continued to follow various wild theories, the real circus ended almost overnight. William, Kate, and their children escaped to Norfolk for a long school holiday, and all our news feeds finally caught a break.
It was reported that Carole Middleton spent the holiday with the family, too, doubtless taking care of Kate as she undergoes chemo and helping care for the children. William and Carole were spotted in a local pub. Oddly, the report did not indicate the two were eating there. Richard Eden’s report only noted the two “walked in and through the pub.” Maybe they did sit down and the witness didn’t include that? I suppose it is possible they just needed to use the bathroom. Some of you might recall that when Charlotte was 3, Kate was seen at a pub in south London. The then-Duchess of Cambridge was just popping in to let her little one use the bathroom. My bet is, however, that William and Carole were picking up take-out.
Whatever the case, it was a small data point illustrating how Kate’s family is rallying ‘round to help the Princess. William got back to public engagements after the family’s return to Adelaide Cottage.
As the month drew to a close, the King announced his treatment is progressing well, and he made his return to public duties. An aside, but didn’t he look just like his father in so many of the photos from that event?
The Sussexes were relatively low-drama in April. The two were spotted in Florida for a polo match and to film Harry’s forthcoming polo special with Netflix, and Meghan sent out her jam jars, which caused a stir, and produced nothing else from ARO. Although both were interesting, neither issue was offensive…until.
